Learn how to alert pet parents

Your pet parents look to you to alert them of any potential health problems with their pets. Become a valuable resource by learning the first signs and stages of pet oral disease that, if left untreated, can lead to more serious, expensive, and even life-threatening health conditions.

Take a few moments at check-in time to:

  • Ask the pet parent if their pet has noticeable bad breath or any problems with chewing, loss of appetite, uneaten food, food dropping from the mouth and/or pawing at the mouth or face.
  • Perform an Oral ALERT Exam:
  • Examine the pet’s mouth looking for these conditions:
(Click for examples and sample photos. Details in Salon Kit):
    • Bad Breath
    • Tartar
    • Gingivitis - the beginning of periodontal disease
    • Periodontal disease - to identify and refer
  • Record the conditions on the pet’s oral health card and review with pet parent at check-out
